Telugu Calendar 1996: Venkatrama

Ravi left on December 27, 1996. The calendar had only four days left.

A solar eclipse. The calendar had marked it months earlier. Sastry fasted, bathed in the Krishna River, and chanted Gayatri Mantra . He ignored it. He rushed her to the hospital. But by the time they reached Guntur General Hospital, she was gone. Ravi left on December 27, 1996

“Sastry garu! The 1996 calendars arrived yesterday. I saved the first copy for you.” The calendar had marked it months earlier

He took out a pencil and wrote in the margin: “Lakshmi’s first death anniversary – Nov 22. Light lamp. Feed cow.”

His wife, Lakshmi, brought him a mudda (jaggery ball). “You and your calendar,” she teased.

He smiled. “My life’s longitude is here,” he whispered.
