Aarav is in the library, alone. Rukmini has passed away peacefully. He opens a drawer – inside is a pile of undelivered letters he wrote to Tara every day, all starting with "Sanam..."
Tara is messy; Aarav is meticulous. She hums pop songs; he only listens to classical ragas on an old Walkman. They clash. One day, a group of local boys corners Tara outside the library, making lewd comments about "the jailbird." Before she can react, Aarav steps between them. He doesn't shout. He is withdrawn, hiding the left side of his face with his hair. When she first speaks to him, he doesn't reply. He just nods. She thinks he's rude. He thinks she's too loud.
They fall in love – but it's a desperate, ticking-clock love. Aarav's grandmother, Rukmini, finds out. She gives him an ultimatum: "Her or me. That girl has a police record. Our family's name will be ruined. You will never be accepted."
