Humiliated, Arslan went back to the book bank. The old man was there, still smoking. He froze

You do the sum yourself, sweat over it, bleed over it, then open the Key to see if you are correct. You used it backward.” He saw the numbers swimming on the page
Years later, Arslan became a finance manager at a textile mill. In his office, behind the framed degree and the photo of his parents, there is a worn-out, dog-eared, blue book.
“Two hundred rupees,” the man said. “It has saved more careers than the university’s placement office.”
The shopkeeper finally looked up. He picked up the Key and wiped dust off its cover.
