Xazi: Balkanetis

Perhaps “Balkanetis Xazi” never existed as a concrete term. But its speculative form reveals a truth: the Balkans are a region where every name, every stone, every furrow is contested and layered. To ask for “Balkanetis Xazi” is to ask for the secret name of the Balkans themselves—a name that, like the region, is always just out of reach, misheard, misspelled, but fiercely alive. This essay cannot provide a definition of “Balkanetis Xazi” because none exists in the literature.
